Mike and Angela Swain describe the courtship process before marriage as hyped-up and trying to attract. After marriage, the strutting resides and the courtship dies-down. It should not devastate, but be understood as the natural path of marriage. It is important to strive to keep the courtship alive, even after the, “I-do’s”.
When you get married you become interdependent. The challenge of living together is two distinct personalities, independent, trying to blend into one interdependent personality, each with their own contributions to the marriage; and learning to yield. God gave you this mate; be sure to thank Him for your mate. Pray that He will help you to live with the differences.
Self esteem begins when you both can give in and adjust to each other in an amicable way and can still cherish the person with whom God has placed you. Self esteem in a spouse helps the marriage as a whole. Edify your spouse to help encourage spousal self esteem. Don’t rely on your spouse for your self esteem.
