Starr and Bob Calo-oy interview Dr.’s Charlie and Liz Schmitz, authors of “Golden Anniversaries: the 7 Secrets of Successful Marriage”.  They wrote their book after being asked to do a marriage workshop. They believe that understanding love is really quite simple, it just takes work to make it last.  Be considerate and respectful to each other and yield to one another.  Success in a marriage is an accumulation of doing the simple things.

Although we join in one flesh when we get married, we do not lose our own identity.  We complement one another.  Couples who have successful marriages touch each other often.  They acknowledge each other’s presence, they communicate.  The most successful couples will usually tell you how they love and respect each other and say that their spouse is their best friend.

The seven secrets listed in their book:  # 1 It Takes Two To Tango, #2 No Sacred Cows, #3 The Golden Rule, #4 Health, #5 Finances, #6 Touch, #7 Beyond Boring.

Top 10 Benefits of being married:  #1 You’ll live longer, #2 You’ll be healthier, #3 You will be happier, #4 You’ll experience higher levels of psychological health, #5 You’ll have a built in support system, #6 You’ll be less likely to abuse drugs or alcohol, #7 Your earnings will be greater, #8 You’ll save more money, #9 You’ll have intimacy more often and enjoy it more, #10 Your children will be healthier, do better academically, and have less emotional problems.
