“Marriage 101” on KKYX Radio 680am San Antonio, Texas
Hosts: Starr & Bob Calo–oy
Guest: Scott Persinger
Broadcast Date: January 2, 2010

Scott says that some of the most common problems that couples face in their marriage are depression, anxiety, O.C.D. (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder),  and various addictions.  Often, folks have been arguing but want to work it out so come to see him for counseling.  He says that it is common for them to want one thing/goal,  but tend to go about it in different ways which then become power struggles.

He addresses Depression as well, and in a very concise manner.  It is vital for everyone to understand that mental illness is an everyday thing.  Depression does not discriminate.  Sleeping less, sleeping more, change in appetite, anger, frustration, withdrawn, excessive crying and the “why get up or why go on?”  It is important to support one another and lift them up which may be hard to do with ill feelings.  It is Most Important to see these symptoms and address them together.  If your loved one won’t go get help, then you should take that first step and consult a doctor or therapist.  Many don’t at first realize that the whole family dynamic changes in these situations, and acknowledging this fact is the beginning of healing.

Thanks for your advice, Scott.  You and your lovely wife have blessed many this last year, and we hope to see you again!
