Broadcast Date: January 23, 2010

In the heat of battle or the heat of life through the week, we tend to bump into each other and save our entire positive attitude for work or friends, instead of  our home with our spouses.  Often we become more business partners going through the “team” aspect of marriage.

Don’t be self centered; have a Service oriented relationship not a Self oriented relationship…you should love your wife, men, and women respect your husband.

Bring back “AWE”-Affection warmth and encouragement.  Studies say it takes 8-10 meaningful touches for us to thrive.  It means bringing positive things into their life, so it is a tone and atmosphere…setting the temperature for your home.  Choose your battles; ask “is this an issue worth fighting for?”  It is a discipline to bring warmth into the relationship.  Remember we are all drawn toward warmth, so provide it, and don’t share what is wrong…instead lift up and encourage!  Mark Twain says “I can go two months on one good compliment”.  Each day try to meet the needs of your spouse, physical, spiritual and emotional.  There is nothing more intimate than prayer together, and it is probably the least exercised component of the couple at home.  Start small, do devotions once a week maybe, or pray together most days in the morning or before going to bed.  Read together, or play together often.  Don’t neglect your relationship; it will flourish if you tend it properly.  If you really want your marriage to change, you have to change-don’t look at your spouse and say “They have to change!”
